Kenya has gotten a boost following the move by French multinational Société BIC , popular for the manufacturing of stationery, lighters, and shavers, to have the country act as its base for marketing and distributing its products.
BIC chief executive Gonzalve Bich, attributed this to the country’s young population and strategic location. The firm announced that Tanzania, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia and South Sudan markets will be served from Kenya, bringing to a total of 10 countries in the continent that Kenya is serving. The move offers employment prospects to thousands of employees who were facing job uncertainty after the French firm bought out Haco Industries, in a 714 million shillings deal barely three months ago.
