AMD has just launched its new generation of processors. The Ryzen 5000 are based on the Zen 3 architecture which should allow AMD to widen the gap with Intel.
4 processors announced – Prices on the rise The announced processors : Ryzen 5 5600X: 6 Cores / 12 Threads 4.6Ghz Boost – 3.7Ghz base – 35MB L2+L3 cache – TDP 65W-299$ ( the current Ryzen 3600X is around 230€ ) Ryzen 7 5800X 8 Cores / 16 Threads 4.7Ghz Boost – 3.8Ghz base – 36MB L2+L3 cache – TDP 105W -449$ ( current Ryzen 3800X is around 350€ ) Ryzen 7 5900X: 12 Cores / 24 Threads boost 4.8Ghz – 3.7GHz base – 70MB L2+L3 cache – TDP 105W -549$ ( the current Ryzen 3900X is around 440€ ) Ryzen 9 5950X: 16 Cores / 24 Threads Boost at 4.9Ghz – 70MB L2+L3 cache – TDP 105W -799$ ( the current Ryzen 3950X is around 750€ ) All processors should be available on November 5th but our information indicates that the 5950X may actually arrive in stock a little later.
A more than significant CPI gain The basic architecture of the Zen 3 offers a 19% increase in IPC over the Zen 2, while also offering higher performance per watt. If the new Ryzens are to be contrasted with their big brothers, increases of up to 24% are to be expected. If we set the Zen 3 against the top of the Intel range, the Core i9-10900K, the Ryzen 9 5xxx processors based on the Zen 3 architecture have up to 2.8 times higher energy efficiency. Each Zen 3 CPU core will have 512 KB of L2 cache for a total of 4 MB of L2 cache per CCD. This should correspond to 8 MB of L2 cache on a dual-CCD processor. In addition to the L2 cache, each CCD will also have up to 32 MB of shared L3 cache. For Zen 2, the L3 cache has been shared between the two CCXs. Each CCX has its own separate cache (up to) 16 MB. The cache size remains the same for each CCD, but all cores can now share a larger number of L3 caches.
Big Navi teased AMD graphics cards will be announced at the end of the month but a tasteful little teasing was presented to close this very short conference.
