The first realistic images of the transparent glycocalyx shield lining all capillaries were captured by Dr. Hans Vink and his team of researchers in the mid-1990s. His interest in the glycocalyx, however, began years earlier when he was introduced to the concept of microcirculation and imaging of red blood cells flowing through tiny capillary microvessels. Out of the desire to learn more, Dr. Vink created his own imaging device, and by 2009 patented GlycoCheck, a non-invasive video microscope that analyzes glycocalyx, endothelium, and capillary function. For over a decade, more than 125 academic hospitals and researchers worldwide have used GlycoCheck to link microvascular health to multiple health conditions and diseases. To date, 73 peer-reviewed published papers have been written that have used GlycoCheck. During Dr. Vink’s presentation, you’ll learn why this breakthrough test system should be as universally used as that of taking a patient’s blood pressure. GlycoCheck takes 100 million measurements of red cell column width in 100,000 vessel segments in just minutes and calculates a single overall Microvascular Health Score™. With GlycoCheck’s upcoming SaaS upgrade to cloud computing, and a new patented CapiVision™ video camera, individual practitioner’s clinics can differentiate themselves with the ability to detect glycocalyx dysfunction.

About Dr. Hans Vink:
Dr. Hans Vink is a pioneer in the study of the endothelial glycocalyx. He is one of the first researchers to study the glycocalyx when he focused his expertise on medical imaging. As a result, Dr. Vink and his team were one of the first research groups to capture realistic images of the glycocalyx and focus on its significance. He had been studying the microvascular system since the 1980s. It wasn’t until the mid-1990s that technology advancements enabled peering deep inside the capillaries to take pictures. The discovery of a very thick glycocalyx, and development of new techniques to take the early pictures, has led to ongoing research to determine how a compromised glycocalyx is linked to diseases and conditions. Dr. Vink is the Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of Microvascular Health Solutions. Dr. Vink is also the Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of BioRegenx. BioRegenx companies include GlycoCheck, Microvascular Health Solutions, MyBodyRx, and NuLife Sciences.
